Evighedsblomst

Everlasting flower.(EVIGHEDSBLOMST) Water Sculpture in granite and cast iron. 1986. Erik Heide (f.1934)

The fountain is an eternal flower that will stand unchangeable for many years into the future. The delicacy of real flowers which only live a short time is in sharp contrast to the heaviness of the cast-iron fountain

A flower made from cast iron. The petals fragility are diametrically opposite to cast irons heaviness, but in Erik Heide's water sculpture he succeeds beautifully in combining very light and extreme mass into a piece of art that at the same time expresses poetry and eternity.

The sculpture is characteristic of Heide's intentional use of raw materials to emphasise their weight and infinite durability.
